The Word On The Street Toronto Offers Its Volunteers an Unforgettable Experience
Every year, The Word On The Street relies on the commitment and drive of more than 240 volunteers to help bring the festival to life!
“Volunteers are the heart and soul of this festival and it truly would not be possible without these dedicated folks coming out year after year,” says The Word On The Street Toronto’s Volunteer Coordinator Meredith Heyland.
Returning volunteers express equal enthusiasm about this wonderful experience: “I just love The Word On The Street!” said one volunteer when asked about returning to the role, while another volunteer veteran commented: “Every year, the volunteers have been a fabulous group to work with.”
And what’s not to love? Volunteers are given the opportunity to develop practical skills, meet great Canadian authors and illustrators, find the best new reads, and share in the enjoyment of Canadian books and magazines at one of Toronto’s signature events. Along with these benefits, volunteers also receive a complimentary t-shirt, free lunch and snacks, a great work experience, community service hours, plus an introduction to a great group of people!
Volunteers help with pre-festival administrative tasks, festival set-up/take down, guest services, event management and logistics, programming support, and exhibitor relations, among other potential responsibilities and are needed on Festival Day, Sunday, September 23, 2012, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., working four-hour shifts that fit around their schedule.
