CHILDREN AND FAMILIES CAN’T WAIT TO VISIT KIDSTREET AT THE WORD ON THE STREET!
The Word On The Street believes in promoting and encouraging literacy and a love of reading from the youngest possible age. This is why, every year, The Word On The Street hosts KidStreet – a festival-within-a festival featuring a fantastic blend of children’s author programming and family-friendly activities that add up to great family fun!
At KidStreet, families are invited to meet and greet with great Canadian Children’s authors. Kids will have the chance to hear their favourite, and soon-to-be-favourite, authors read from their latest books, and meet them in person at the Children’s Authors Signing tent!
Darcy S. (aged 10), The Word On The Street’s Children’s Book Blogger, says: “I got involved in The Word On The Street because I love reading and it’s the best reading festival ever in history. You will find all of your favourite Canadian authors at the festival and you can see the TVOKids stars perform live on stage!”
In 2012, KidStreet offers three exciting venues: the Children’s Reading Tent, the Children’s Activity Tent and the TVOKids Stage.
At the Children’s Reading Tent, there will be many great authors to discover, including Tim Beiser, Rebecca Bender, Cary Fagan, Andrew Larsen, Kyo Maclear, Dave Whamond and Cybèle Young.
At the Children’s Activity Tent, join renowned poet Dennis Lee to celebrate his classic Canadian Children’s book at the Alligator Pie Party! More fun activities include decorating your own felt puppets and hats with J. Lum and J. Torres; testing your knowledge about the human body with Liza Fromer and Dr. Francine Gerstein in their fast-paced Body Works Quiz; participating with author Lizann Flatt and illustrator Ashley Barron in a hands-on collage activity; sharpening your pencils for a fun-filled drawing activity guided by illustrator Debbie Ridpath Ohi; learning the art of Origami with the Brothers Leung; and moving and grooving to Andrew “Too Tall” Queen’s folk music and silly sing-a-long performance!
At the TVOKids Stage children will be thrilled to meet their favourite TVOKids personalities as they share in a jam-packed day of literacy-focused entertainment that includes music, stories, readings and interactive sessions. Dance along and don’t forget to keep an eye out for Polkaroo!
Families can pick up a KidStreet Festival Guide at any of The Word On The Street’s five Information booths for more details about KidStreet programming. The Guide is designed and produced by Owlkids, publisher of Chirp, ChickaDEE and OWL. The WEBview, digital edition of the Guide will be available on The Word On The Street’s website in September.
And that’s not all… be sure to visit KidStreet’s Marketplace filled with amazing books, publishers and authors waiting to be discovered, all geared towards children.
